We finally landed home and were greeted by the bitter cold and a blanket of white. A five hour plane ride took us from sandy beaches to snow covered streets. After making ourselves quite comfy in our home on water, we are back from our Southern Caribbean cruise. Welcome to the view of the Caribbean through my lens:)
Curacao: The rich colors of pink and blue greet you the second your feet hit the dock. Find yourself wondering next to a floating fish market. Take in the wonderful smells of fresh picked bananas from the local market. But the best part of this city is the fact that Andy and I will always be apart of it. We found a beautiful heart shaped metal art piece. Chained to its twisted metal rested locks. Each inscribed with names. Those who want a permeant love. Forever locked and frozen in time. You place a lock on the with you and your partner’s name on it. Throwing the key in the crystal blue waters the river. After searching the city for hours for a lock and almost giving up; we found one!! And Andy and I left our mark on the city of Curacao:)
Aruba: They stood about 6 feet tall. Scattered throughout the beautiful town of Oranjestad. Painted a brilliant royal blue that could be spotted from a distance. Eight horses are scattered through the city but we only spotted three. I guess now we will have to go back!
St Kitts: This island actually surprised us in more ways than one. We ended up hoping onto an open air bus and we fell in love. Leaning so much about the island’s rich history in sugar cane which was the main sugar cane supplier to Britain before it closed down. Stopping just on the edge of the rainforest, we disappeared in the tunnels of the sugar and rum factory.
St Thomas: Our last stop before we headed back to San Juan. A year after the 2017 hurricane season took its toll, the mark of its devastation is still visible. Some stores are still boarded up. Covered with wooden boards. Builds crumpled to the ground. Greeted only by the earth. This does not stop the island from greeting you with its beauty.
And with that, that is a wrap on our 2019 friends vacation. But don’t worry, that doesn’t stop us from planning 2020!
Love Camille!
